Catlyn Capital Corp. is a privately held real estate investment company founded in 1991 by Baker Montgomery and Robert L. Trimble. Catlyn is headquartered in Dallas, TX. Catlyn was formed as a vehicle for opportunistic investments in Texas real estate.
From 1991 through 1993, Catlyn primarily focused on purchasing notes secured by real estate from the FDIC and RTC. These notes were renegotiated, serviced, sold or foreclosed. Once the window closed for purchasing these notes, Catlyn started focusing on purchasing REO land and income properties from various governmental entities and lenders.
These properties were then managed to maximize value and liquidated. During the period from 1994 to the present, Catlyn's investment strategy has been to identify and capitalize on development and substantial value enhancement opportunities with a focus on multi-family, industrial, office, retail, and land. Catlyn specializes in joint venture partnerships where the developer/sponsor can deliver the property, the staffing, the tenants and the end-buyers while Catlyn funds the required equity. Areas that are generally performed by Catlyn include investment qualification, due diligence and asset management. Property level development, management and leasing services are performed by the developer or third-party companies.
In the past decade, Catlyn has closed transactions with total project costs in excess of $1.5 billion. Prior to the inception of Catlyn, the principals participated in transactions in excess of $3.0 billion.
