A Cavernous Malformation is a benign, abnormal cluster of blood vessels that create caverns of slow flowing blood. They can occur anywhere in the body but are more commonly found in the brain and to a lesser extent, the spinal cord. These presentations are referred to as Cerebral Cavernous Malformations. Cavernous Malformation can be inherited in some cases and may present with symptoms including seizure, headache, focal neurological symptoms and stroke. They may also be asymptomatic.
Cavernous Malformation may be known by other names, such as cavernoma, cavernous angioma and cavernous hemangioma.
