Centre for Bay of Bengal Studies

The Center for Bay of Bengal Studies (CBoBS), established by the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) in 2020, aims to become a leading hub of knowledge and research on the Bay of Bengal. With core goals of promoting deep research on environmental and ecological issues, enhancing the sustainability of the blue economy, and fostering collaboration among scholars, practitioners, and policymakers, the CBoBS aims to develop an epistemic community focused on the Bay of Bengal region. Recognizing that the Bay of Bengal is a shared marine Commons, the CBoBS also aims to expand its national epistemic community regionally by engaging in collaborative research, dialogues, and conferences. As the Bay of Bengal is of vital importance to Bangladesh for food, economic activities, and development, the CBoBS seeks to protect and study the possibilities and challenges of the region through research and mapping initiatives.
