About Caving-Engineering Diploma (CED)
The Department of Mining Engineering, as part of the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences of the University of Chile and The University Of British Columbia (UBC), offers the Caving-Engineering Diploma 2025-2026 to the community. The CED seeks to train specialist professionals in all aspects of Caving-engineering from geology to mine project management. The current Diploma has been delivered 10 times, graduating almost 100 professionals. Due to the deepening of mining activities around the world and the need for low cost and high productive mining methods, cave mining is profiled as the most viable mining method for the future Cave Mining, as a highly complex mining method, requires specialized professionals with technical skills in several areas such as preconditioning, mine design, mine planning, mine ventilation and automation. The CED seeks to train specialized professionals through academic activities such as lectures, technical presentations, personal study and other activities.
