Community Empowerment for Rural Development-CEFORD Uganda

Community Empowerment for Rural Development (CEFORD) is a not-for-profit national non-governmental organization operating in Uganda since June 2000. It is registered under Incorporation Certificate No. 8001000460788 and Registration No. M/A/NB2000/11/2710. CEFORD has been a member of the Uganda National NGO Forum since February 2002. This year, in November, CEFORD marks 25 years of dedicated service. CEFORD was founded in July 2000 following the successful merger of two programs: the Community Action Programme (CAP), established in 1993, and the Women Empowerment Programme (WEP), established in 1997. Both programs, supported by the Netherlands Government, were phased out in June 2000. Their success in transforming a region affected by insecurity and economic stagnation led to the creation of CEFORD by the former staff of these initiatives. CEFORD currently operates in 12 districts across the West Nile region, including Adjumani, Arua, Terego, Madi Okollo, Moyo, Obongi, Nebbi, Packwach, Yumbe, Koboko, Maracha, and Zombo. Additionally, CEFORD extends its operations to South Western Uganda in Kasese and Masaka Districts, as well as Kiryandongo District. Population Reached Over the past 20 years, CEFORD has directly impacted more than 2 million disadvantaged individuals. Among them, 760,000 are refugees, while 1,240,000 are Ugandan nationals. Women and youth make up over 1.3 million of the total beneficiaries, and more than 100,000 persons with disabilities have been supported through various CEFORD programs.
