Centrica is an Italian company based in Florence and is a recognised leader in digitization and the enhancement of cultural heritage. Our vision is to make the creative arts accessible through immersive exhibitions and interactive platforms, combining professional expertise, experience and know-how, while giving prominence to the cultural heritage of museums worldwide and other cultural institutions, whether public or private. Beginning in the year 1999 we have been pioneers in direct and very high resolution digitization thanks to a multi-year project with Uffizi Galleries and other important institutions (Basilica of Santa Croce, Basilica of San Lorenzo, Pitti Palace, Boboli Gardens & etc.). Centrica is also continually active in the research and development of innovative platforms. These experiences encouraged us to re-design and improve two sectors: one based on edutainment, which produced the startup VirtuItaly, and one focused on education (EdTech), with digital applications such as ArtCentrica in late 2019. With VirtuItaly (www.virtuitaly.com), established in 2015, our aim is to enhance Italian culture through immersive and interactive exhibitions. In this vein we created educational and entertaining interactive shows for a wide range of visitors: Uffizi Virtual Experience in Milan (2016) and Renaissance Experience: Florence and Uffizi in Leipzig and Shenzhen (2018). In the EdTech application ArtCentrica there are more than 1.500 high-resolution images, up to 10 GigaPixels each, of artworks from the Uffizi Galleries (Florence), the Brera Museum (Milan), The Metropolitan Museum of New York and Florentine Views. Thanks to ArtCentrica’s digital technologies, the artistic heritage can be studied in a new and different and fascinating manner: you can visualise artworks in intimate details, compare them, measure them, discover correlations between different artwork’s details and use the over 20 lessons in the application.
