El Centro Panamericano de Estudios e Investigaciones Geográficas, CEPEIGE, se crea en 1973 mediante convenio entre el Gobierno del Ecuador y la Secretaría General del Instituto Panamericano de Geografía e Historia - IPGH y ratificado mediante nuevo convenio en el 2007, como una Institución Académica vinculada al IPGH, con autonomía propia y con toda la libertad de acción inherente a una organización internacional. Establece su sede en la ciudad de Quito-Ecuador.
