The Consumer Education and Research Centre (CERC) is a leading Indian non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and promoting consumer rights. They achieve this through research, media outreach, legal advocacy, and public education.
Recognizing the need for environmental awareness, the Indian government established the Environmental Information System (ENVIS) in 1982. Initially, ENVIS focused on providing environmental information to experts and policymakers.
Since environmental issues are complex and diverse, ENVIS works with a network of organizations, including CERC. Each organization contributes expertise in a specific environmental area. CERC focuses on environmental literacy, eco-labeling, and promoting eco-friendly products.
Recently, ENVIS was rebranded as the Environmental Information, Awareness, Capacity building, and Livelihood Programme (EIACP). This reflects an expanded mission beyond just providing information. EIACP now offers training programs (GSDP) to develop green skills, ultimately empowering graduates with new career opportunities.
