Cern Corporation, Inc. is a Southern California based Delaware “C” corporation formed to develop and commercialize an effective, non-drug therapeutic treatment (Device/Gel) for both fungal and bacterial vaginosis using low-level microbicidal light, administered as a small insertable device for use at home as needed. The Cern Device™ addresses a significant unmet need for an effective science-based approach, not dependent on drugs/chemistries, for efficacy to aid a population unable, or have a preference to, avoid conventional systemic, drug-based treatments which may not be effective, appropriate, or desired, based on patient condition (e.g., maternity, immunocompromised, drug resistant, recurrent, multi-drug interactions). The device addresses a significant interest by women and clinicians to lessen intake of drugs/chemistries which is particularly important when associated with overuse of antifungals & antibiotics leading to development of drug resistant strains as well as the added benefit of helping to avoid negative or compound drug interactions, as well as to mitigate newly appearing fungal strains which are resistant to current standards of care. Cern's approach will also align with telemedicine. Once the device is prescribed, the healthcare provider has ability to interface remotely with the patient to activate usage based on “normal” recurring symptoms after a “remote” consult. Additional user data and outcome feedback can be captured to facilitate data flow for epidemiology and education. The team includes experts from medical device industry, academia, and healthcare, all focused on bringing this new treatment to market.
