The Committee for Justice (CFJ) is an independent, Geneva-based human rights organization established in 2015. Our mission is to defend the rights of victims of human rights violations, with a specific geographic focus on North Africa and the Sahel region. We work to expose injustice, promote accountability, and support legal reform by documenting violations, providing legal and technical assistance to victims and their families, and engaging in national, regional, and international advocacy.
Since its founding, CFJ has positioned itself as a key actor in the international human rights movement, especially in contexts marked by authoritarianism, conflict, or systemic abuse. We maintain a strong presence before United Nations human rights bodies and mechanisms, the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR), and other international institutions. Our documentation work is grounded in rigorous methodology and aims to support victims in accessing justice, whether through international litigation, national accountability frameworks, or transitional justice processes.
CFJ also manages a multilingual digital platform and database that monitors and reports on patterns of repression, particularly targeting civil society, journalists, human rights defenders, and political prisoners. Our work is grounded in partnerships with local civil society actors and lawyers across the region to ensure that documentation and advocacy are victim-centered, context-sensitive, and informed by realities on the ground.
In recent years, CFJ has played a leading role in highlighting issues such as enforced disappearances, torture, arbitrary detention, and transnational repression. We are committed to amplifying local voices, building capacities for legal resistance, and pushing for structural change that guarantees non-repetition.
