On behalf of Project Legacy, The Friedlander Group are pleased to welcome you to CGM Commission 52 as we pursue the Congressional Gold Medal for the 52. On January 21, 2021 we are called to remember the victims of the Iranian hostage Crisis on the 40th anniversary of their release. To commemorate this milestone, we wish to bring to your attention the bipartisan legislation that will be introduced in order to award each Iranian hostage with a Congressional Gold Medal. For 444 days, America held a collective breath, as the Carter administration grappled with the task of securing the hostages freedom without sacrificing the honor and security of this nation. For America and her people, the crisis was a “declaration of war on diplomacy itself”, as the New York Times wrote in November 1979. But, for fifty-two (52) American men and women this was not a diplomatic event to be debated inside the walls of an American court, university, or office – this was and is their sacrifice to our country.
