Gaming together for cancer research, that is what ChangeGamers is about. Through the game called Tilly, ChangeGamers brings together society, physicians and AI and data experts to accelerate research into immunotherapy and artificial intelligence. The game is a cell game and provides crucial fuel for these revolutionary developments in cancer research, carried out by the AVL/NKI. With the aim of making immunotherapy available to more patients.
This starts from the human cell, the smallest living unit. Increasing knowledge about our cells advances research into immunotherapy using artificial intelligence. However, there is a lack of data about our cells and the time of pathologists to retrieve this data. By gaming everyone can contribute to this research in a playful way by recognizing and sorting cells, what is an immune cell and what is a tumor cell. Over the past year, with Tilly the game we have provided proof-of-principle that we as players are together as good as the expert. With this crucial data, researchers can train algorithms that help to better predict which patient is eligible for immunotherapy.
Equally important is that the game offers an opportunity to involve a community of players in the research in an interactive way. It connects players, among themselves and with experts, and makes it very tangible from the cells how immunotherapy works and what an algorithm exactly is. In fact, AI makes a weather map of our cells and it can be made very visual. By playing, we thus visibly increase the learning capacity on all fronts: from algorithms, to doctors and researchers, to the community of players. In short, the game makes impact and learning about research go hand in hand. Will you play along? Every cell counts.
ChangeGamers is founded by a team of creative freelancers in collaboration with the AVL Computational Pathology team. The game is developed with support from AVL Foundation and Vodafone Netherlands Foundation.
