Le projet Chanvre Occitan de Virgocoop est une chanvrière textile française. Une chanvrière est une industrie chargée de contractualiser auprès d’agriculteurs la production de chanvre (Cannabis sativa). L’activité consiste à transformer les pailles récoltées en fibre textile destinée aux filateurs européens aujourd’hui en demande de nouvelles matières. La SCOP Chanvre Occitan a pour ambition de réactiver la filière chanvre textile en France et devenir un acteur incontournable de la mode écoresponsable de demain.
Chènevotte et fibres courtes, issues du défibrage, sont valorisées sur différents marché : écoconstruction, bioplastique, paillage.
