Château Castera, Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel

At Château Castera, we cultivate the art of making historic wine that combines authenticity, respect for ecosystems and the pleasure of knowledge and sharing. Classified Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel, Château Castera, and its 65 hectares of vineyard, benefits from an exceptional geographical location in Saint-Germain d'Esteuil, in the Médoc appellation. Château Castera is also one of the oldest châteaux in the Médoc, at the head of which many great names have succeeded: the Arsac family, a major wine exporter in the 14th century, Étienne de La Boétie, the famous humanist adviser to Parliament from Bordeaux, friend of Michel de Montaigne whose brother Thomas was also the owner of the Château or even the Marquis de Verthamon. Since the arrival of the Press family in 1986, the entire estate has undergone a vast renovation program, making the historic Château Castera one of the jewels of the wine tourism in the Médoc. Since 2008, under the impetus of Thomas Press, the estate has been actively involved in a sustainable development approach at the heart of which 100 hectares of woods and forests are preserved and maintained. They are a treasure of biodiversity and the lungs of the whole vineyard. Directed by Jean-Pierre Darmuzey and Philippe Grynfeltt for nearly 30 years, Château Castera and its twenty employees share the same passion and philosophy on a daily basis. It takes the form of respectful and meticulous work with the land and the vines to produce the great wine of Château Castera.
