Chemical Engineering is a dynamic field that is continuously evolving to drive global advancements. The Chemical Engineering Department at Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM), plays a pivotal leadership role in this progress through its modern teaching curriculum, cutting-edge research advancements, active industry collaborations, and entrepreneurial activities. Established in 1959 alongside the Institute, the department, had humble beginnings, benefitting from German collaboration in nearly all its functions. Fast forwarding to Present Day, our laboratories employ fully-operational large-scale equipment, while keeping pace with ongoing miniaturization and Industry 4.0 trends prompting continuous updates. Our diverse group of faculty members are actively engaged in solving today's problems through industry consultancy, exploring fundamental science while advancing development towards the future through next-gen technologies leveraging state-of-art R&D facilities that offer students valuable insights into real-world scientific and industrial settings. Our faculty are also involved in cutting-edge research in diverse multi-disciplinary fields in including Environment, Energy & Materials, Molecular Simulations, Reaction Engineering, Process Intensification, Process Systems Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, etc.
