ChessPals

ChessPals was founded in 2018 out of a passion for chess and learning. Its primary mission is to supply free chess programs to under-resourced schools who need them. The program began with its founder, Henry Lien teaching chess at Venetia Valley middle school for a community engagement project. However, Covid had shut down the program’s planned expansion. With the pandemic now subsiding, Henry is working to reinstate classes with schools across San Rafael and Novato. Henry hopes to help foster a new generation of chess players who enjoy the game and all it teaches.
