Chickenshed NYC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit inclusive youth theatre company founded in 2016, enriching the lives of young people through a nurturing and creative theatrical community. By fostering inclusion, self-expression, and collaboration, Chickenshed NYC creates original theatre that celebrates diversity and inspires positive social change. Chickenshed NYC offers a dynamic range of programming: Interactive performances for preschoolers and their families, designed to engage the youngest audiences through movement, music, and storytelling. Theatre programs for ages 5–18+, featuring two productions per year—one scripted and one devised collaboratively by participants drawing from their own ideas and lived experiences. Community Outreach programs, including tailored workshops for elementary, middle, and high school students. These workshops invite participants to explore their voices and stories, culminating in the creation and performance of original work. Our programming is built on the belief that art and science are not only compatible but mutually enriching. Each year, we explore scientific questions and themes within our creative process, encouraging critical thinking alongside artistic expression. At the heart of every Chickenshed NYC production is a commitment to creating inclusive spaces where young people—with and without disabilities, from all backgrounds—are given the opportunity to shine. The result is powerful, joyful theatre that builds confidence, empathy, and community among our participants and leaves a lasting impression on audiences of all ages.
