ChIPs is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to advancing women in technology, law and government. It has the dual purpose of increasing diversity and inclusion in these fields as well as enabling the progress of innovation that benefits our society. Membership is open to anyone who shares the ChIPs mission. ChIPs stands for chiefs of intellectual property, which reflects its roots: It was founded more than a decade ago by seven women who at the time headed IP for major Silicon Valley tech companies. The network has since expanded to a global community with members whose backgrounds reflect the increasingly critical convergence of law, technology and regulatory policy. Members include general counsels, chief intellectual property officers, chief litigation counsel, private practitioners, judges, lawmakers, government officials, regulators, academics, board directors, technologists, innovators, investors, corporate executives and entrepreneurs.
