Chispa Project is a 501(c) not-for-profit organization based out of Tegucigalpa, Honduras
In Spanish, "chispa" means "spark," which is exactly our goal:
to inspire and empower Honduran students with access to books.
Through book donations, teacher development, and international volunteer projects, Chispa Project works with Honduran educational institutions to spark a passion for learning that will grow and be nurtured within the local communities. Our vision is to spark a desire for lifetime learning which will then enhance the quality of life in this brilliant country. Over the last several years solely through volunteer efforts, approximately 12,000 books have been brought to more than 50 different schools.
Chispa Project has a unique approach in bringing books directly to schools in a community-driven development approach. After a donation occurs, book ownership and responsibility is passed to the communities, and we train the teachers and the PTA (padres de familia) to jointly manage the books.
