Statistics show that one in three of us will develop cancer in our lifetime. Even if you are not directly affected, nearly all of us will be moved by the pain and suffering cancer causes to a dear relative or friend. Our Senior scientist and Assistant are working every day in our lab at the ICR (Institute of Cancer Research in Sutton, Surrey – to make a real impact on childhood cancer patients’ lives. Through our unique partnership the ICR with The Royal Marsden NHS foundation Trust and ‘bench-to-bedside’ approach, we are able to create and deliver results in a way that other institutions cannot. The Chris Lucas Trust are rated the largest organisation to exclusively fund Rhabdomyosarcoma in the whole of Europe. In partnership with the ICR has an unrivalled track record in cancer research going back over 100 years. Having provided the first convincing evidence that DNA damage is the basic cause of cancer, we laid the foundation for the now universally accepted idea that cancer is a genetic disease. Today the ICR lead the world in isolating cancer-related genes and discovering new targeted drugs for personalised cancer treatment.
