Democrat Chris Mattei is the Former Chief of the Financial Fraud and Public Corruption Unit in the U.S. Attorney’s Office where he served our state working to hold the powerful accountable to us. He has spent his public life trying to be a voice for people who all too often went unheard and unseen. Now, he’s running for Attorney General. As an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Chris protected the well-being of Connecticut families by taking on some of the country’s most powerful special interests. He cracked down on gun traffickers who were bringing illegal, out-of-state guns into Connecticut’s cities. He fought for seniors by prosecuting crooked investment advisors. And, he partnered with AARP to empower seniors to protect themselves against identity theft and fraud. As the Justice Department’s lead public corruption prosecutor in Connecticut, Chris was a powerful foe of those who would abuse their power. He prosecuted John G. Rowland and others who were convicted of abusing the public’s trust and funneling secret money into Connecticut campaigns. Chris also brought cases to preserve the integrity of Connecticut’s landmark campaign finance system and to protect municipal finances from fraud. As a young man, Chris dedicated his life to empowering people who all too often went unseen and unheard. After college, he worked as a high school teacher on the Navajo reservation, helping impoverished Native American students get their high school diplomas. He later stood with working men and women as an organizer for SEIU and got his law degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law. Today, Chris continues to practice law with a focus on standing up for civil rights, victims of abuse, and consumers. He resides in Hartford with his wife, Joy, and their three children, James, Everett and Gabriel.
