About Cyber Initiative Brussels
The fifth domain of warfare, cyberspace, is now established as a crucial facet of international security. We are convinced that this field is not addressed appropriately in Security and Diplomacy programs and is still not being recognized enough in university curricula. An increase in references to cyber-related topics in both the strategic documents of the EU (e.g. Strategic Compass, Cyber Strategy 2022, NIS, Cyber Resilience Act,...) and NATO (e.g. Strategic Concepts, Cyber Security Pledge) shows the growing importance of cyber security in understanding the strategic calculus of international and regional actors. Therefore, the BSoG Cyber Initiative aims to bring awareness about the importance of cybersecurity in today's world and the paramount need to secure cyberspaces. This knowledge will allow security and diplomacy students to be conscious of the opportunities and threats digitalization brings. On the one hand, CI advocates for more cybersecurity-focused courses, and on the other hand, trains the future generation of cybersecurity practitioners, builds a network with companies and institutions in the field, and provides coverage for cyber-related topics overlooked by the curriculum.
