Centennial Infant and Child Centre is a centre of excellence committed to the development and education of children with developmental challenges. Our programs are provided annually for 500 children across the GTA, ranging from birth to five years of age. The Early Intervention Program is a home-visiting program for families with children who have a delay in two or more areas of development or are at risk for delays due to premature birth or other complications. Our integrated half-day preschool program emphasizes individual planning in an enriched, structured and nurturing environment. The Classroom Assistants Employment Program provides direction, resources and opportunities to individuals with special needs who are at risk for social exclusion and economic disadvantages. CICC currently employs 8 individuals with developmental disabilities to assist in the everyday functions of the preschool. Centennial has two Special Needs Resource Consultants who support a group of childcare programs in Toronto. Our consultants provide support to the Early Childhood Educators in these centres, and help to ensure that all children, no matter what their need, can participate in the program. Through highly individualized programs, intense occupational and physiotherapy, specialized teaching and advocating with the families, the children are able to reach their potential and have the best start in life. The success of our children prove what research has clearly shown – that early intervention provides enormous benefits and can prevent or minimize long-term disabilities.
