The film club Cinema Neuf started in the autumn of 1989 under the name Blindern film club. The goal then was to create the basis for an alternative film environment that could be an arena for showing films in a different way than elsewhere, where the films were themed (historical, political, stylistic, etc.) or contextualized in a confusing film world. In the autumn of 2002, the film club moved from the Blindern campus down to the Lillesalen at Chateau Neuf by Majorstua, and then also changed its name to Cinema Neuf. What did not change was the attitude of creating a different screening location for a film than what is otherwise available in Oslo. Cinema Neuf is still a film club, and in it lies a commitment that extends beyond capital interests and other unreasonableness. Cinema Neuf exists for the film, and for everyone who wants to see a good film, and as a film club, we try to merge these two elements by being a cracking good film environment for our members. In fact, you will not find it in many other places. Cinema Neuf is over 20 years old, with an exciting history filled with both ups and downs. There have been times of stimulating profits, while other times it has been difficult to turn the wheels. It has not always been easy to be an organization run voluntarily by mainly poor students in a competitive industry. But Cinema Neuf is alive and well today, thanks to the great efforts of volunteers, board members and not least all our members and audiences.
