Why does CIPOTECH exist? We have recorded a high number of valuable assistive devices from patients’ home post recovery or replacement. These devices deteriorate overtime because of lack of use, hygiene, and poor storage capacity at home. Resulting in premature wastage of valuable assistive devices associated with an economic loss of medical funds. On the environmental waste research reports that 91% of medical waste is attributed to medical devices. Whereas, economic waste medical aid members are reported to pay 55% more out of their own pockets. To prevent the economic losses, patients are selling or donating assistive devices to each other without consulting qualified healthcare professional. Such unregulated practice in the market poses patient safety concerns for healthcare regulators, which include risk of infection and compromised medical device efficacy or appropriateness. What can we do to change this? How can we make a difference? What we’re trying to do at CIPOTECH is to inspire the industry’s transformation to a sustainable circular assistive device rehabilitation.
