The research project deals with the sewage sludge management in a circular economy towards converting a currently waste byproduct to a beneficial new material. For this, various methods and technologies are tested such as Sludge Treatment Wetlands, Composting, and Biochar production; all tested methods will deliver a final useful material that will then be tested in agricultural crops.
The project is funded by the Green Fund of Greece. Coordinator is the Laboratory of Environmental Engineering at the School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, Technical University of Crete. Partners in the project are also the Municipal Enterprise for Water and Sewage of Chania (DEYACH) and the Inter-municipal Solid Waste Management Enterprise (DEDISA)
