We’re one of the original specialty coffee roasters in Melbourne – the heart of the world’s most progressive coffee culture. Our vision is to offer incredible coffee and to be at the forefront of sustainable and closed loop business practices for the industry.
We’ve been roasting award-winning, specialty coffee in Port Melbourne for more than 15 years, and in that time, our business has always been centred on sustainability and environmental best practice, without compromising on quality.
Our premises operate on 100% accredited green power, and we’re co-located in our Port Melbourne premises with leading environmental company Australian Ecosystems.
After reducing our emissions, we offset residual emissions from bean to cup through our carbon offset program. We’ve also put in place a number of circular economy initiatives at our roastery, including selling all our coffee in compostable bags. We’re one of the only roasters in Australia to do this, with a certified and tested compostable valve and compostable resealable locking strip, in addition to the compostable material that stores the roasted coffee. We supply fully compostable take-away cups. We have bins with a number of our larger coffee clients to allow us to pick up our compostable coffee bags which are sent to a commercial composting facility. We collect and reuse our cardboard boxes with cafe clients and we partner with Reground to collect spent coffee grounds that we provide to community and school gardens for compost.
We divert our own organic waste (including coffee chaff and coffee grounds) into our own highly productive vegetable garden at our roastery, which has allowed us to donate large volumes of fresh produce to our food charity partners. Our test farm developed with urban farming company Biofilta has proven that large amounts of fresh food can be produced from abundant organic waste streams.
