City Layers

City Layers is a transdisciplinary city-mapping framework which centers on citizen experience of urban space as an integrative way to increase livability in cities. Its purpose – to reveal, map and inform the citizens’ spatial needs, while also helping fulfill them. As digital transformation and AI-driven approaches increasingly drive social change, City Layers addresses the challenge of integrating human perceptions and lived experiences within urban planning. Based on a scientific approach, our co-created city dashboard translates complex urban challenges into concrete, site-sensitive indicators – “layers” of urban space that citizens identify, map and visualize. By reorganising individual spatial observations into collective knowledge, our dashboard provides essential urban information and a citizen-centered roadmap for improvement. Open to both citizens and city-planners, City Layers fosters a more inclusive, citizen-centered approach to urban transformation – based on collective intelligence.
