As the non-profit R&D arm of Civic Hall, Civic Hall Labs seeks to reimagine civic participation for the 21st century; expand the field of civic tech*; and demonstrate a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to designing and building technology for the public good. Why is this important? Rapid proliferation of personal and mobile computing has transformed business and our private lives. However, today’s public challenges remain, by comparison, mostly untouched by this digital revolution. Concerted, thoughtful action is required to apply 21st century digital tools to improve the public good* while mobilizing a new kinds of civic participation. Complex public challenges require unprecedented collaboration across silos. We bring together sector experts, data scientists, researchers, designers, technologists, media makers, community groups, and entrepreneurs - to explore how the use of design, data, and technology can create scalable solutions. Join this diverse, multidisciplinary group of problem-solvers. Find out more. What are Civic Hall Labs' programs? We structure our work into two main programs: THEMED LABS and CIVIC XCELERATOR. We also develop infrastructure needed to run and scale these programs, with an eye toward new models of civic engagement and expanding the field of civic tech. Infrastructure projects take the form of toolkits, data standards, research, and business model design.
