The Chair’s mission is to apply the utmost academic rigour to analyzing the major economic challenges facing Quebec.
To do this, the Chair seeks to:
- Enrich political debate and help policy-makers with research of impeccable academic rigour;
- Study the phenomena that have a major impact on our ability to increase productivity and prosperity in Quebec;
- Expand HEC Montréal’s skills in economic policy;
- Reach, inspire, and pique the interest of students and professors in matters of economic policy affecting Quebec.
Research Focus:
HEALTH AND AGING
Healthcare consumes significant resources in Quebec and elsewhere, especially with aging. Economically viable solutions to manage costs, such as caring for dependent individuals, are studied by the Chair.
LABOR SHORTAGE
Labor scarcity, resulting from aging and limited mobility in Quebec, poses major challenges. Research will focus on causes and methods to support economic growth.
SOCIAL POLICIES
Effective social policies, like supporting families and seniors, are crucial for reducing inequalities without hindering growth. Research will analyze the effectiveness of fiscal policies and the financial status of Quebec households.
