The business, L & L Paint Supplies cc, was started on 1 March 1985 by Leon and Lynette Stander as distributors for a large Cape Town-based paint company. In 1995 it was decided that in order to be competitive against the major (and other minor) paint companies, the only road to follow was to manufacture our own personal brand of paint. The name ‘Classic Paints’ very soon grew into a household name within the Southern Cape area.
With the encouragement and help of the late Bill Cherry, probably one of the best paint chemists in the country at that time, it was decided to start small, using one 250lt machine with which we would make only one type of paint (an inexpensive PVA) and only 10 drums a week. This very quickly grew into a full-blown factory making everything from pure acrylics to varnishes and even specialized products such as Flame Retardant Enamels for the SA Navy! We also supplied the paint for the entire exterior of Somerset Hospital in Cape Town.
In October 2016, Leon passed away and Lynn continued with the Business. In January 2018, Classic Paints (Pty) Ltd took over the original formulations and now continues the legacy.
PRODUCT RANGE
We manufacture a complete range of products such as high-quality Sheen Acrylics, Textured paints, Enamels, Undercoats, Varnishes, Roadline paint, Waterproofing products, Anti-fungal paint, and to a lesser extent, some Automotive-finish products and Industrial Paints.
QUALITY
From the outset we insisted that the products be of the highest possible standard and to this end we only purchase the best quality raw materials from well-established companies. We have in our employment probably one of the finest Formulating Paint Chemists in this country, thus ensuring that the products are always of the highest quality. We are proud to be able to say that to date our success rate has been phenomenal with excellent comments from the general public, to the builders and contractors who use our paints.
