About Children's Dyslexia Center of Cleveland

The Children’s Dyslexia Centers, Inc. consists of 46 learning centers located in 13 states. Founded in 1994, the not-for-profit organization is supported primarily by the Scottish Rite Masons & other generous individuals, foundations, & corporations. MISSION STATEMENT Provide, free of charge, the highest quality multisensory reading & written language tutorial services for children with dyslexia. Promote education of professionals and the public to become resources in teaching children to read. Advance scientific knowledge of dyslexia through support of clinical research to improve today’s standards & tomorrow’s care. Orton-Gillingham Training Program The Children’s Dyslexia Centers, Inc. Scholar Program has trained thousands of educators in the Orton-Gillingham teaching methodology with a focus on reading remediation. The this system is designed to address reading delay (or concerns of delay) with children K through grade 3. Orton-Gillingham is specifically prescribed to assist children with dyslexia, which is the number one cause of reading challenges. The Children’s Dyslexia Center—Cleveland SCHOLAR PROGRAM consists of the following: • Fifty (50) hours of lecture focusing on dyslexia as a neurological function, the impact of dyslexia on the development of reading skills, effective educational intervention with the Orton-Gillingham instructional approach. • A supervised 100-hour tutoring practicum that provides hands-on experience with implementing the O-G multisensory teaching approach. The practicum hours take place at the Cleveland Learning Center with 2 students. The Scholar Program is IMSLEC (International Multisensory Language Education Council) accredited & meets the Ohio Department of Education requirement for teachers of reading K-Grade 4.
