About The Clewer Initiative

The Clewer Initiative is the national work of the Church of England to combat modern slavery. We believe that the tools to end modern slavery already exist within the local community and that the Church, which is present in all communities and at the heart of many, has a primary responsibility in leading these efforts. We seek to raise awareness and develop practical tools and resources for use by churches, communities, partners and the public. We also provide care and recovery for victims. The Clewer Initiative is a key player in the modern slavery arena, in the UK and internationally. We work through broad collaboration at all levels, through local and national projects and organisations; educating and involving the public; and, training and empowering local communities to respond to modern slavery. We work with all 42 of the Church of England's dioceses and with law enforcement, local and central government and statutory agencies, charities and wider faith networks.
