At the Chair of Clinical Psychology and Behavioral Health Technology, we investigate innovative psychotherapeutic approaches in the domains of body, communication and culture: (1) Body. We focus on questions such as how psychotherapeutic procedures can be refocused to better address individuals with physical symptoms. For example, we investigate the benefits of cognitive behavioral therapy for people with tinnitus or chronic pain. One current project is Movement InterFEARance in Chronic Back Pain in the CRC EmpkinS. (2) Communication. We examine how new communication technologies can enhance the accessibility of psychotherapy. This includes, for example, research on the effectiveness of internet-based psychotherapy or the use of health apps. (3) Culture. Our research focuses on the impact of cultural aspects on the treatment of mental disorders. Our objective is to enhance the availment of transcultural psychotherapy by identifying and overcoming potential barriers from both treatment providers and those receiving therapy. Another topic that matters a lot to us is Women’s health. Research on topics such as endometriosis or premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) are still rare. Our ultimate aim is contributing to close this research gap. The core of our research is the active involvement of patients in the planning, implementation and evaluation of new research projects (Patient and Public Involvement). This enables more efficient processes in clinical research and translating research into practice.
