When you say that you are on cloud nine you mean that you are extremely happy. You feel as if you are on top of the world. No one is really sure where the expression comes from. Some believe that the original expression was on cloud 7, very similar to the expression Seventh Heaven. Others believe that nine was chosen because it is considered to be a mystical number. In traditional Chinese Ham mythology there are nine layers of the sky. The ninth cloud is the highest part of the sky or, in Taoism, heaven where the goods live. It also means the palace where the king lives, or the king himself. Nine also means infinity.
