About Centre of Migration Research
The Centre of Migration Research (CMR) is an interdisciplinary inter-faculty research unit of the University of Warsaw, specialising in studies on migration processes in Poland and in Europe. The research program implemented by the CMR assumes a multi-method and multidisciplinary approach. The Centre employs 58 researchers of different background: sociology, economics, demography, political science, social anthropology and cross-cultural psychology. The major research fields covered by CMR studies include: • Trends and patterns in migration from/into Poland; • Migration in Central and Eastern Europe; • Migration and the labour market; • Immigrant integration; • Migration and aging; • Migration in the local and regional perspective; • Social and political participation of migrants; • Causes and consequences of migration; • Migration of the highly skilled; • Methodology of migration research; • Migration policy. CMR has been involved in a number of migration projects, funded by national and international sources. Various international collaborative initiatives remain an important part of Centre’s activity. Since 1991, the CMR has participated in the SOPEMI Project, monitoring the migration trends in Poland and other countries of OECD. From 2007, the CMR is a member of IMISCOE Research Network (till 2009 known as IMISCOE Network of Excellence), which associates some 39 leading European institutions in migration research. The CMR publishes (in Polish and English): • Central and Eastern European Migration Review • CMR Working Papers series; • Biuletyn Migracyjny (Migration Bulletin); • Book series Studia Migracyjne (Migration Studies) published by University of Warsaw Press.
