COCHIN MINERALS AND RUTILE LIMITED(CMRL)

Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited incorporated in 1989 as a public limited company with the main objective of establishing a mineral processing unit for value addition of mineral sand. The company’s chief promoter, Dr. S N Sasidharan Kartha was an NRI businessman based in Saudi Arabia. It was the time when Government of India company Indian Rare Earths Limited(IRE) was exporting ilmenite from Kerala without any value addition and Kerala State PSU, Travancore Cochin Chemicals (TCC) was facing crisis due to lack of demand for its product. For creating value addition for the product of IRE and for the existence and development of TCC, Government of Kerala invited Dr. Kartha to set up this mineral value addition unit. The unit was set up in Cochin as a 100% Export Oriented Unit (EOU) to produce Synthetic Rutile using ilmenite as the main raw material, with equity participation from Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation limited. CMRL is a recipient of National Export Award for outstanding performance from the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India and is a Model Eco-Friendly company awarded by the Government of Kerala. The company has clear focus on mineral value addition and long term growth.
