This superman of a human being has overcome so many obstacles life has thrown at him, it is hard to keep up.
Born as the great-grandson of the first president of South Africa, C.R.Swart, Cobus has risen to be a top international keynote speaker and motivational coach for teams, businesses and individuals alike. He was diagnosed with hemophilia, the kings' illness as known in history because so many royals suffered from this disease. Hemophilia is when your blood does not clot after you start bleeding and the tiniest of scratches can lead to a trip to the hospital. In time, hemophilia lead him to develop hepatitis C which slowly started to disintegrate his joints and muscles.
Cobus was immobile by the year 2015 - he could not pick up his sons and could not care for himself. If he wanted to move from one spot to the next he had to crawl to get there.
“When I was faced with death again December 2014, spending Christmas and New Years in ICU with bleeding on the brain, and not being able to walk at all, I was lying in the hospital bed and saw a man on TV who climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in a wheelchair. That is when I decided if I can just get myself into a wheelchair, that I too will attempt to climb the mountain…” Which he did! An is now up and walking every single day, juggling his time between his numerous businesses, mental coaching of various sports teams and corporate companies, hospital beds (unfortunately) and planning his next two trips: Machu Picchu, Camino de Santiago and base camp, Everest.
He should not be able to WALK never mind hike out mountains. He was bedridden with a bleak future not so many years ago and look at him now.
I really want others to realize the strength there is in a healthy mental state and I truly believe that Cobus’s story ( As seen on Kwêla, Mzanzi Magic, Groot Ontbyt ...to name a few)
