Our overall aim is to:
“Empower and enable young underrepresented people of colour to pursue a career in tech by providing a safe space for them to learn, explore and grow”.
We are currently doing this by running a range of events for young people aged 12 – 25 to either expose them to skills such as programming for the first time or to foster their passion. Over the last 18 months we had a “Build a Website in a Day” event followed by a “Build a WebApp in a Day” event. Tolulope also ran a “Text-Based adventure Games in Java” workshop on behalf of Coders of Colour at AfroTech Fest 2018. This summer we will be having coding workshops and drop in sessions at the Taylor Digital Studio at Tate Britain and a Career Fair. These events will not only support inquisitive young people, but also those keen to climb up the career ladder that remain underrepresented in the sector.
