About CodeX Stanford Blockchain Group
CodeX’s mission is to bring together researchers, lawyers, entrepreneurs and technologists who advance the frontier of legal technology. We get excited by new enabling technologies that promise to bring efficiency, transparency and access to legal systems for everyone. We believe that Blockchain technologies will have significant impact in the field of law, both as legal infrastructure for technology-mediated economic and social activity, and as a technology that can improve access to legal services. The elegance of a cryptographically secured decentralized consensus mechanism when married with identity, feedback, and reputation systems has already ushered in a wide array of applications — from smart contracts for IoT and supply chain management systems to new cryptocurrencies. In order to understand and address the challenges and realize the potential, we’ve embraced Blockchain technologies and created a dedicated working group at CodeX. The Blockchain Group has the following mandate: 1. Research and publish informed perspectives around blockchain ecosystem. 2. Track, guide and influence policy and regulations in this space 3. Become an inclusive, neutral forum for regulators and policy-makers to convene with academics, professionals, and technologists across Stanford and the wider Blockchain community. Our initial focus will be in the areas of: 1. Regulatory frameworks and ethical standards around token generation events (also known as ICOs or Initial Coin Offerings); 2. Legal issues and opportunities presented by blockchain technologies and their intersection with existing legal frameworks; 3. Smart contracts and governance design for token ecosystems; and 4. Legal empowerment and legal services use cases for blockchain technologies. To learn more about the Blockchain Group or to participate and join, please write to kushagra@codex.stanford.edu and tony@codex.stanford.edu.
