As an urban public college, a key feature of the mission of the College of Charleston is to provide a workforce pipeline to support the region’s growing high-tech and manufacturing industries. To that end, in 2024, the College of Charleston launched the new School of Engineering, Computing, and Mathematics. This school comprises three departments:
1. Department of Engineering
2. Department of Computer Science
3. Department of Mathematics
The reorganization of these three academic departments into a stand-alone school is a strategic investment by the college into select professional, more applied programs to attract new cohorts of students, bolstering the enrollments of traditional liberal arts coursework. The programmatic synergy between these departments provides a technically savvy and globally fluent talent pipeline for the Low-country of South Carolina and beyond.
