COFVI is a unique independent education initiative established in 2013 in Mumbai, India and managed and run by trustees Renuka Theogaonkar and Sheetal Desai.
Research clearly presents significantly heightened levels of odour perception in the visually impaired. Based on these findings a perfumery course was designed by Renuka to give the visually impaired students the basic skills and training needed to work in the fragrance and flavour industry. On completion of the program, students have been successful in finding full time placements in the fragrance, flavour and Allied industry in India.
The initiative continues to be a success with more students enrolled, providing tangible results and demonstrating the exceptional abilities of the visually impaired in identifying and distinguishing complex odours.
COFVI hopes that the Fragrance and Flavour Industry will empower this initiative by employing the visually impaired.
