We are a start-up company active since 2020 researching cures for diseases of the nervous system that result in cognitive decline in patients. The company emerged from a highly-experienced research team at the Karolinska Institute and Hospital that has been working in the field of neurodegenerative brain diseases for several decades. Over the last decade our work has focused on Alzheimer’s disease, and the fact that the cognitive decline exprienced by patients is caused by pathological disorder in those brain wave patterns and neuronal networks that are responsible for sensory information processing, learning, and memory. Our approach to finding a potential disease-modifying treatment for Alzheimer’s centers on small molecule drug compounds that target the ability of major neuronal classes to synchronize their electrical activity and generate those brain wave patterns in neuronal networks that are responsible for our cognitive abilities. Our work has led to the discovery of a novel target for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders based on FDA-approved small molecule drug compounds that rescue neuronal network stability relevant for cognition. The target has been validated successfully in treatment trials in 3 animal models of Alzheimer’s disease as well as in stem cells from human Alzheimer’s patients.
