Founded in January 1995 to re-invent the consumer electronics experience for consumers, manufacturers and retailers, etown.com was the web's first broad-scale portal for consumer electronics content, commerce and community. Winner of dozens of "Best Of" web awards, including Time, USA Today, Entertainment Weekly and Good Housekeeping., etown was the official CE content partner to Yahoo, Ask.com, Lycos, Earthlink, 3Com and many others. Company funded with $25 million in venture capital, usership of over 1 million visitors per day. Pioneering work included the web's first multi-retailer shopping cart (before Amazon), the first webcast from the International Consumer Electronics Show (1999) and the web's first AI-powered 'subjective' shopping assistant (Ask IDA) in partnership with Ask.com (2000). Site acquired by Best Buy Corp. in 2001.
