The Collaborative Research Centre 1648 focuses on emerging and re-emerging viral infections with high epidemic potential, including for example. Ebola, Lassa, MERS, and the so-called “Disease X”. These pathogens are prioritized by the WHO due to their public health risk potential and lack of effective countermeasures. Our multidisciplinary consortium – 26 principal investigators and their teams – investigates key virus-host interactions across four research areas: pathogenesis, target characterization, immunity and intervention. By bridging basic and translational research, we aim to strengthen scientific preparedness for future outbreaks.
