Comet Solar Racing (CSR) is a competitive solar electric vehicle team at the University of Texas at Dallas. The main goal of this non-profit, student-led team is to design and build energy-positive electric cars that are powered solely by solar energy and race them in prestigious cross-country marathons around the world like the American Solar Challenge and World Solar Challenge. As a student organization, we aim to foster a community at UT Dallas and empower the next generation of leaders in green mobility.
Built over a period of two years, solar cars pose unique engineering challenges for students in solar-energy harvesting, power electronics, energy storage, advanced composites manufacturing, and aerodynamic design. Apart from engineering, involvement in this project helps students to develop important skills that complement their in-class learning that includes project management, fund-raising, leadership, delegation, finance, collaboration, and professionalism.
