Spot trading - With spot trading the commodity is usually inspected and delivery takes place either immediately or with very little time delay between the trade and delivery.
Forward contracts - With forward contracts two parties agree to a future date for exchange to take place on a given quantity for a price defined today.
Future contracts - A future contract is similar to a forward contract although the transaction takes place through an exchange. Future contracts is referred to as a standardized contract in which the buyer and seller accept the product with regards to grade and quantity and only negotiate on the price.
Trading can take place in any of these methods.
