Communities That Care Ltd is an evidence-based prevention organisation. Our work is driven by a commitment to building the capacity of Australian communities to foster healthy youth development using a prevention approach. Our values are based on rigorous research from fields including public health, sociology, psychology, education, criminology, medicine and organisational development. Communities That Care Ltd delivers training and consulting support to Australian communities who are implementing the Communities That Care prevention framework. Using the Communities That Care framework, our communities are guided to: - mobilise diverse stakeholders in a local prevention coalition - develop a deeper understanding of the needs of local children and young people using the Communities That Care Youth Survey - prioritise prevention action that targets the risk and protective factors underlying the health and social problems experienced by local children and young people - implement tested and effective prevention strategies to reduce risk factors and increase protective factors Under the Communities That Care framework everyone has a role to play; no single organisation, strategy, person or institution bears the burden of responsibility to address the local health and social challenges alone. The Communities That Care approach has been shown to successfully reduce: • youth alcohol, tobacco and other substance use • antisocial behaviour and violence • school disengagement • mental health problems • sexual risk-taking
