Complexity Fit

Complexity Fit instigates learning journeys into the unknowns of uncertainty for leaders, teams, and individual humans looking to equip themselves with the skills to adapt, make sense of, and find opportunities in the messiness of complexity. Practicing Complexity Fitness is a lot like learning to surf. Like the ocean, the contexts we find ourselves in are unstable, dynamic, and always in flux. Even seasoned surfers can still be surprised by unpredictable waves and currents. While this holds potential danger, it also holds opportunity and adventure. The same is true for the contexts we find ourselves in today. Much is unknown or even unknowable, we cannot wish away or ‘tame’ the complexity, but we can learn to navigate it, we can learn to surf. One aspect of becoming a good surfer is maintaining a dynamic tension between stability and flexibility. From a place of inner stability, we can flex and adapt to even highly unstable and turbulent environments. Complexity Fit teaches these skills. To be complexity fit is to be COOL. Four meta-skills (Courage, Openness, Observing, and Lightness) are woven through and into all of our modules and learning units, they also guide how we “show up” as instructors. These meta-skills along with the other skills enable an entangled, slightly messy, but always exciting and coherent learning experience. Our learning journeys can be customised, and include: Foundational modules that form the stable core of our content. Here we focus on gaining an understanding of complexity, how mindfulness supports our ability to thrive in complexity, and how we need to build and maintain the physical and mental capacity to be resilient in the so-called VUCA world. We also offer a growing catalogue of modules focused on the skills and practices we need to become complexity fit. These include Curiosity, Imagination, Play, Sensemaking, Decision-making, Spanning Boundaries, Flow, Pattern Smarts, and Coherence.
