The company was founded in 1991 by Michael Cushley (formerly the editorial and production manager with Elsevier Science, Ireland) who saw an opportunity for a new type of pre-press service, which would facilitate the ongoing changes in the academic publishing industry.
Compuscript began by editing and typesetting scientific books and journals for clients worldwide.
Traditionally the focus of the business was in the area of scholarly publishing (including academic journals and books) in the fields of science, technology and medicine, but over the years the company has expanded into areas such as educational books for the primary and secondary school systems (K-12), legal and business publishing as well as dynamic online only publications.
